Counselling and Therapy for Adults, Adolescents & Young People

Counselling and psychotherapy offers clients short or longer-term therapeutic help to explore the confusing or difficult aspects of life in an accepting, respectful environment with a trained professional. Talking to someone who can actively listen and empathise, in a supported space, can often help us to clarify confusing thoughts and feelings, to see things in a new light, or help us come to terms with and cope with the things we cannot change.

  • Feel listened to, acknowledged and believed
  • Come to terms with past experiences or present struggles
  • Increase your self-awareness, gain insights and build confidence
  • Identify and change unhelpful patterns
  • Explore new options and choices

About Me

I am a qualified person-centred psychotherapist and humanistic counsellor, a registered member of both the BACP (British Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy) and the IAEBP (International Association for Evidence Based Psychotherapy). I have enhanced disclosure Criminal Records Bureau, now known as DBS certification to work with both adults and children.

In my private practice based in Shrewsbury town centre I work with adults and young people, I also work with adolescents, teenagers and children as a school counsellor. In addition I work with survivors of sexual violence and domestic abuse with both adults and young people (13yrs+).

My aim is to provide a safe, confidential, supportive space for clients to explore the often complex, highly personal issues, experiences, feelings or behaviours which may be causing distress or hold us back in life.

How I can Help

Whatever the presenting issues, clients come for counselling and therapy because they no longer want to feel the way they have been feeling – it’s natural that we all want to understand what is happening and why, and more importantly find a way to make changes. I aim to provide the safe and supportive environment for positive change to evolve. Common issues include:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety, Stress & Panic Attacks
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Divorce and Relationship Issues
  • Low Self -Esteem or confidence issues
  • Anger Management, Bullying
  • Domestic abuse and violence
  • Sexual violence and sexual abuse
  • Trauma and PTSD
  • Fears and phobias

I believe it’s the quality of the relationship between client and counsellor which provides the fundamental essence of successful therapy. As a person-centred integrative counsellor, I believe in the unique, very individual, but inherent human motivation for each of us to reach our potential and that we all instinctively know what is best for ourselves.

I aim to help facilitate this very personal process of discovery and growth and help clients to explore and come to terms with any issues, experiences, feelings and behaviours which can sometimes leave us feeling stuck, disturbed or troubled.

My private practice is based in Shrewsbury, however I work across Shropshire, Mid and North Wales – please feel free to get in touch for more details or to make an appointment.

  • Therapeutic process:

I offer an introductory meeting that can help you feel more certain about whether to engage in counselling or psychotherapy. Some people find that a few sessions of therapy can help them address a specific problem, while others choose to work on a longer-term basis to help focus on deeper concerns.

  • Sessions:

I see clients on weekdays by appointment. I offer face to face, telephone and online counselling.

Please call or email me to book or to find out more.

  • Confidentiality:

I treat all information disclosed to me by you as confidential. However, if I believe that you are in danger of harming yourself or others, or that a child is at risk, I reserve the right to inform outside agencies but would not do, wherever possible, without discussing this with you first. If you disclose information about certain criminal or terrorist offences I have a professional obligation to tell outside agencies with or without informing you first.

  • Are you Qualified?

The British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) is the largest governing body of counsellors and psychotherapists in the UK. To be a member, therapists have had to meet very high standards and are bound by the BACP ethical framework and code which safeguards and protects both the client and the counsellor. I also undertake continuous professional development (CPD) each year to continue to develop new skills to benefit clients.

  • What can I expect?

Therapy sessions last for 50 minutes and usually occur once per week, however some clients prefer bi-weekly, others choose to come more frequently. Our first session is for us to meet, to discuss your initial needs and explore more about the counselling process. We can then choose to work together for as long as is needed with regular reviews.

  • Assurance of Quality

To ensure that therapists and counsellors work safely, ethically and in the best interest of our clients, we are required to attend clinical supervision throughout our professional career. I undertake monthly supervision, to discuss my work and ensure best practice, however, the identity of all my clients will always remain confidential during this process.
